Ok! Now for the news of the life of Elder Daugherty in Nicaragua!! Breaking news for all those that saw what my hair was like, well I got it cut. The thing was that the mission doesn't give us very much money to use here and with me helping people to get married, I spent all my money very early during the month. Well with the help of my parents, I was able to take some money out to cut my hair! It is now short and mission standard!!
So lets start with the week! We were able to baptize another family last Monday. I don't have photos but it was awesome to be able to help another family enter into the right path that they need to follow to reach eternal salvation. We are so happy to be working with them and helping them progress. As a companionship, we have baptized for 7 weeks in a row. That is a record in the mission and our Mission Pres wants us to break the record he put on his mission of 13 weeks in a row. He has set a high bar for us and we want to reach it and overcome it if we can. Its alot of work that he wants to see from us but we will do everything we can in our power to do it.
So Wednesday, we had changes! Well nothing too big happened. I stayed in Tipitapa and I stayed with my companion. We now have about 3 months together and will probably end with almost 5 months together here in Tipitapa. So there isn't too much news on me or my area from changes.
We did have some big things happen this week though. We had a District Conference this weekend so we had to do alot of running around to get all the figured out. We had a goal to get 20 Men to get ordained to Elder by receiving the Melchizedek Priesthood. We worked super hard this week and all last week to get these men interviewed and ready to get the Melchizedek Priesthood. Well yesterday during the Conference, we had the chance to ordain 21 men to the office of Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood. It was a miracle that would not have happened without the Lords help! I love this work and the Lord and all the help He has given me and will continue to give me!!!

Ok this week has been pretty cool up to today! It all has to do with teaching, walking, baptizing, sushi, surgeries, and much more!
So on Thursday, we started off with a baptism! The family of Engels and Scarlet. This family is really good friends the Branch Pres and he really wanted us to help them get baptized. So we went over there, taught them a few times and got them ready to enter the waters of baptism. We did that on Thursday and on Sunday, Engels was able to receive the Aaronic Priesthood. This Sunday, we were able to ordain about 8 men to the Aaronic Priesthood because this coming Sunday is the District Conference where all eligible and worthy Aaronic Priesthood holders with receive the Melchizedek Priesthood. We have a goal of 20 worthy men to receive it this Sunday. If we are able to have these 20 stay active and worthy, we might be able to start a ward sometime in the future. We will need a new Branch Pres and a bigger Chapel too.
So today, I went to the mall with Elder Eversole. He has about 22 months in the mission and is just about ready to head home. We went to this Sushi place to eat. It is called Sushiitto and sells sushi and Japanese food for really cheap. So we ordered 5 rolls of Sushi, a fondue soup, and deep fried veggies. It turned out really awesome since it was my first time eating sushi. All sushi really is is rice, veggies, sometimes alittle crab, shrimp meat, or salmon, cheese, and spinach. I really enjoyed it and it ended being about $30 for all of it. I did this just before I had an appointment with the doctor!!
I started getting the ingrown toenail about a week ago so I talked to the mission nurse and she told me to get an appointment with a doctor. So I did. A week ago the doctor saw my toe and she said that if I use a bunch of drugs and stuff that maybe we can get rid of it. Well I did everything she told me to do and all it did was get rid of the infection that I had. So today I went it again for her to look at it and she said that she would need to operate on my toe to take the ingrown nail out. So we went to her little clinic and she pulled out the needle, numbed my toe, sharpened her knives and began her business. She cut away the bad and overgrown skin around the nail and then cut the nail straight back to where the nail begins to grow so that when it grows back, it will grow straight. She then stitched the skin back together and wrapped it all in gauze. I now am limited to how much I walk and I have to do a bunch of drugs and stuff with my toe. And this Wednesday, I have to go back so she can look at it. And because this Wednesday is changes, I hope that I don't have changes so that everything will go well.
I hope everything is going awesomely at home and that everyone is happy!!!

Well this week was pretty sick, literally. On Tuesday, my comp started to feel sick with a cough and headaches. We worked all day and later that night, he crashed in bed coughing, stuffy nose, and more headaches. The next morning, Wednesday, it was the same. But as the day went on, he got worse. He started to get a fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and pain in all of his body. We had to stay in the house all day to let him rest. Well that night, I started to get a cough. Not a real big one, just small and meaningless. Or that's what I thought. The next morning, I woke up not feeling the best. We went through out our day but at about 2 pm, I passed through everything my comp went through in a few hours. We had to rest at the house all day so I could relax. Right now, I am still struggling with a little bit of the cough that is lingering but that's about it. My comp is all better now and teases me that I still have part of the sickness that he gave to me. He also passed it to all the other missionaries that are living in the house with us. We are just about done with this sickness and hopefully we can feel a lot better this week. But despite the fact that we all got sick this week, it doesn't stop us from doing the Lords work here in Tipitapa. Yesterday, we were able to baptize a family. They are an older couple but super cool!! The husband has a huge knowledge of the gospel and his wife has a huge faith that I have never seen before. The husband is 73 yrs old and his wife is 57. They have a ton of kids and she currently is 4 months pregnant with another one. They have a huge testimony of the family being together forever and the plan of salvation. I love how the Lord has helped us to help others here in Nicaragua. I'm happy to have the chance to be here and to preach His word.
On other news, remember my recent convert that was waiting to have her baby? Well she had him! On Saturday at 1 in the morning, they opened her up and she now has a little baby boy named Jordan Alejandro Diaz Gutierrez. It is so cool to be with their whole family who have recently been baptized and have this experience of bringing a new life into the family. A little baby straight from the arms of the Lord. I sent some photos that I took yesterday while we were visiting their house after church. With my sickness, I was trying not to get too close but their family is really happy to now have a new member that was born into the covenant, the first one in their family.

Well this week has been pretty crazy!! On Wednesday, we had a meeting where we met the new Pres of the mission. His Name is Pres Collado from Costa Rica. He has his wife and 3 young kids of the ages of 14, 12, and 8. The 2 older ones are girls and their youngest is a boy. The meeting was for them to introduce themselves, to get to know all the missionaries and to let us know what they expect from us. His wife, Hna Collado, talked to us about how we are the hands of Christ. She shared the talk that Elder Uchtdorf shared in the April Conference.
She talked about how as missionaries, we are sent to the places that the Lord needs us to do His work. He isn't there in person but He is there through the teachings of the missionaries and through the Spirit that we bring. So to help us remember that we are the Hands of the Lord, we did some painting. We painted our hands and pressed them against a banner that says we are the hands of Christ. Our whole Zone did it along with the Pres and his Wife. It now stands as an ensign that we have committed to be the Hands of Christ and to do His work always.
Yesterday, we had the opportunity to baptize another family! This family are the parents of the pregnant girl we baptized about 3 weeks ago. But we had a slight twist thrown at us that we had to deal with. The husband has a problem with his legs. Well one of them anyways. He has a disease that is kind of like Muscular Dystrophy. About 2 years ago, this disease conquered his left leg. It now only works to support his weight. He can still walk but he struggles. He uses the good leg to move forward and uses the other leg to support his weight as he steps forward. So the Baptismal Font in our church would be impossible for him to enter due to the fact that the font is a big foam hot tube that you have to climb into. So we took this family to another church that is close in the area that has a normal walk in font. He went in, shoes and all to be baptized. My comp baptised him and I helped support him. They did the prayer normally and after, the man put his arm around my comps neck and my comp went under the water with him to make sure his whole body was covered. It was funny because the moment he went under, the mans leg that doesn't work, started to float to the top of the water. I had to grab it to keep it under so we wouldn't have to dunk the guy again!! After, we gave them the Holy Ghost and everything went smoothly.
Their daughter that is pregnant is about to have her baby too. The doctor told her last week that she was suppose to have her son but nothing has happened. They found out that the baby is in a sitting position and that it why she hasn't felt anything yet. If her baby was in a different position, she would have had her baby awhile ago. But because her baby is in the sitting position, they will have to operate, or in other words, open her up so she can have her baby. We gave her a blessing the other day that everything would go well and that her new baby boy would be a blessing for her life. Almost everyone in their house is a member now and they are one family that I know the Lord will blessing them alot.

July 1, 2013
Well this week has been pretty good and crazy!! We started out the week by visiting a bunch of people that we had brought to church last Sunday. One of the families, we had taught them and they wanted to start making changes in their lives and start being better. So we helped them to get prepared especially with the Word of Wisdom. We used to drink and would still do it every once in awhile but after we talked to him and set some goals, he has stopped and it helping his family more and being more of a father and husband than he was before. We taught them about baptism and they wanted to do it. But like almost every other Nica, they needed to get married first. So on Saturday, that's what we did, We married them and baptized them. After, I was talking to them about how they felt, like many others, they said that they felt clean and that they were starting to live a new life where the Lord will be able to help them more.
But what really triggered this big change in their life is one of the things that was holding them back in the beginning. Beer and Liquor. We Visited them Tuesday night and they were having a party with their family. It was more of a party that their family had planned and forced them to have it at their house. This party consisted of about 10 people that were so drunk, they could barely walk. My comp, wasn't thinking at the moment and we entered the house. I was scared out of my mind because I didn't know what and when something was going to happen. We started to talk to the family, who weren't drunk, about how they could fix this problem and what they need to do to do it. Well, like many drunk Nicas, when they see a Gringo, they immediately start to try and speak English and make fools out of themselves. One guy was screaming at me in English, asking me what my name was, where I was from, and if I wanted to talk to him in English. I told him that I didn't speak English and like many other drunks, he believed me. He turned to my comp, grabbed him and started to talk to him in English which my comp doesn't understand at all. After a while we were able to get out of there. We went the a house where they had invited us to eat dinner and calmed down. 5 minutes after, the house that we had just left from which wasn't too far away started to get in a huge fight. One of the ladies that was super drunk was yelling and throwing punches ever which way and who ever she could hit. That, mixed with a bunch of other people that were really drunk just started a huge fight where everyone was jumping, yelling, punching, etc. We had left just in time but we really never should have entered there in the first place.
The Lord has really blessed me in my mission not only protecting me but helping His work here move on in an area that has really struggled in the past. We really need His help even more these days because our Branch is starting to get alittle apostized. The Branch Pres doesnt know exactly what he is doing and assigns people to do his jobs for him. And these people are teaching doctrine that isnt true. There are many members here that have become less active and dont want anything to do with the church because of the problems that our Branch Pres has caused and is continuing to cause. We as missionaries are trying our very best to fix all the problems him and others are causing here in the branch. We have talked to District Presidents, Mission Pres and other leaders to fix this problem but it seems like its taking too long for anything to happen. I would go into more detail but I dont want to confuse anyone that is reading this about any doctrine of the church. We are doing our best and praying that hopefully a change is soon to come in the future. The Branch really needs someone that knows what they are doing and knows how to do it good. Every day we work harder and harder to strengthen the members here to stay strong and to lean on the Lord and His true teachings.
